Game Canceled 3-31-09
Today's game at Franklin Co is canceled. There will be Varsity & JV practice Wednesday night at the Babe Ruth field from 5-8pm.
6th grade win
What do I say about one of the most exciting and fun games I have ever been privileged to coach in? This 6th grade squad showed everyone who doubted what we have been trying to do, that a 6th grader can play at a competitive level on the "big" field! There are so many things to brag about this game. It was the first true test of these guys playing against a team of their own age group. Here are just a few of the great things that I observed:
First, the defense was AWESOME! We made all of the "average" plays, and to win at this level and above, it takes making the "average" plays better than our opponents do. Second, we turned another "double-play", which is an above average play. If we keep making the "average" plays, then those "above average plays" will mean more. Great job to all of the team for a great defensive game. The umpires complimented us after the game, one told me that he thought he was watching a varsity game by the way we were playing defense. He was very impressed that 6th graders could play such fundamental defense.
Second, pitching was awesome! John Phillip Duncan started the game and kept his control for 3 strong innings. Dallas Bryan, old buddy, you did one outstanding job for your first game on the hill. You showed people why we picked you up for this team! Your poise on the mound was really fun to watch. I am looking forward to watching you pitch some more this season. And Dylan Sandoval, you did a great job coming in and closing the game and not giving up any runs. You also showed great poise on the mound, you have a bright future if you keep working hard. Dylan also showed great teamwork, he let Jamie Walker courtesy run when he could have early in the game, he told me Jamie was faster and had a better chance of scoring, so he wanted to let him run. That is what teamwork is all about, sacrificing for the better of the team and not being selfish, I'm very proud of you Dylan. (you also got a great hit)
Third, hitting was not bad. We have to get more hits out of the infield. The hits will come, we are on a big field, and just due to our size and strength, its hard to get many deep hits. But don't worry, as long as they are making good contact, the hits will come with size and strength. We still have some work to do hitting, but I am not worried about it, I feel like it will get there.
We cannot slow down, we have to keep working hard and improving as baseball players. I watched a team last night who believed in each other, even when they were down by two runs, they never stopped believing that they could win. They never gave up, and I watched a team truly have "FUN" playing the game of baseball. That will stick with me for the rest of my life, the feeling that I had, listening to, and watching these guys become a "team" right before my very eyes was a humbling experience. I know last night is just a sample of what is in store for the future of this team, and I am proud that I was able to share it with them.
Parents, lets keep supporting these boys, the late night homework and getting up grumpy in the morning is paying off. It takes a special kind of boy to commit to this level of baseball, and they have done it well. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child's life and teaching him the game of baseball. They have handled the pressures of middle school baseball well (and a few good ole Coach Adam butt chewing). See ya on the ball field....

Field tarp training
Monday, at 5 pm I need all players, coaches and parents who are interested in helping to be at the high school field to learn how to deploy and put up the field tarp the high school team just purchased. This is a large tarp that takes several people to use. If we can utilize it properly, we may get more games in considering the amount of rain we have had lately. Thanks in advance for your participation. If you have any question feel free to call a coach or board member.

Get ready 6th grade !
After a tough Saturday lets get back in winning column 6th graders! Hopefully this will be a TRUE 6th grade game, Blackman's coach said they only have a couple of 7th graders, but most of their key position players are 6th graders. This will be one, 7 inning game. I am excited to see where we stack up against other 6th grade teams in the state. Varsity and JV, lets show up and support these guys, show them we're watching and pulling for them. Wear home uniforms, white pants with red accessories. Be at the high school field at 6pm.
As old Nathan Bedford Forrest said, "put the scare in em', and keep the scare in em'". Lets "get it on" 6th graders!!!!!!

Looked Good Tonight
It was good seeing everyone again but I just wanted to let you boys know that I thought everyone looked good in the hitting center tonight. Everyone was hitting the ball hard and the pitchers looked like they were hitting there locations, now we just have to carry that over to our next game. Please remember to work on the things we talk about at home, the harder you work the better you will get and I know that it really stinks not being able to get on a field right now but we have to make the best of it.
Varsity, continue winning games right now you are 2 & 1 and like Coach Adam said tonight you can finish the season with only 1 loss if you work hard and put it all out on the field. This team has alot of talent and I can see us winning it all BUT we must keep working hard on the little things. We have to keep our pitchers fresh and keep a strong defense, we have to get the bats going even stronger, we also need to focus on our base running and continue to get better in every aspect of the game. I beleive in you guy's so you need to beleive in each other when we walk on the field no matter where we are you own that field you have to beleive that and play like there is no tomorrow. FINISH STRONG!
Junior Varsity, yes we are struggling right now but we have to get better and we will each of you need to beleive in yourselves and in each other as a team, it will come I promise. I have been seeing other kids step it up on the mound and I like what I have seen I just need to get the right combination together on the mound and we will be fine. When we get our bats going we will be hard to stop, we also still need to think about what we are doing as soon as we step on the field whether it be on defense or offense. We have alot to learn and a short time to learn it thats why I am asking each of you to work even harder now and to work hard when you get home and if you ever have a question about your position please don't hesitate to call one of the coaches. KEEP YOUR HEADS UP!
6th Grade Team, I have to say I have been very impressed with your performance on the field thus far. You need to realize that each team you are playing is 95 percent 7th graders if not 100 percent 7th graders. You will continue to get better and grow into a very strong team just as I have said above you need to continue to work hard and even harder when you get home. It is going to take time fo you young men to grow as a team as well as the JV guys, beleive me when I say the more you play together the better you will get. BELEIVE IN YOURSELVES!
Just thought I would share something with each team.

Rain Rain Go Away The Red Raiders Want To Play
I have been watching the radar all day hoping that the rain will hold off so that we can play tomorrow night.
TULLAHOMA on a Friday night the first match up of the season for the Varsity boys if you can't get pumped up for this game then there is something wrong with you. Players tell everyone in school to come to the game we need to see a big crowd we want to show Tullahoma whose house they are coming to bring family and friends and make sure you tell them to get LOUD! This is a very important game if we come out with a strong defense and hit the ball like we are capable of doing we will get to raise our bats in victory when this one is over. So I say to Tullahoma bring on Shefield bring on Wettington they are in for a rude awakening, bring those rag arms and I dare you to throw the heat because the Raiders will hit you oh and you want to throw a curve ball we will sit back on it and rip it into the outfield gaps.
LETS GET IT UP RAIDERS WHHHHOOOO RAAAAAAAAH!!!!!

Cancellation information
FYI...When a game is cancelled, it is a collaboration between CCMS coaches and Coach Jones. Considering the work and money spent on the field, if it is saturated from heavy rain, we have to cancel so we won't damage it. A full field tarp has been purchased by the high school, all coaches and players will be trained on how to deploy and remove it this weekend. This will help protect the infield and allow us to get games in after a rain.

Tullahoma game(s)
Today's games have been cancelled (03/26/09). Tomorrows schedule has been changed, it will be a Varsity / JV double-header. Varsity will be the 5 pm game, followed by the JV game. Players need to be at field by 4:15 pm, wearing home uniform (white, red acc. & white hat). Lets keep our fingers crossed that the weather will allow us to play.

WEATHER !!!!
I have never started out a season with weather causing such a problem like this year. Just to keep everybody in the loop, we HAVE to get the varsity conference games in first. I know JV and 6th graders want their games also, and we will try to reschedule those as well, but our first priority is to get the varsity conference games in. We are hoping that we can keep from playing during spring break, but it may be necessary, if we want to get these games played, to schedule that week. This is a problem for all the teams in this area, it has affected all schools, not just ours. Bear with us, as it is a nightmare trying to schedule all of these games in the first place, but even worse to find the time to reschedule on a field that is shared. A big thanks to Coach Meeker, he has handled the scheduling and has done a great job! If the military wanted to punish the terrorists at Gitmo, just make them try to schedule a baseball season like ours (haha).
We will try to keep everyone up to date as we learn new information. Any questions feel free to call one of the coaches or a board member.

3/23/09 vs. Siegal (6th grade)
Double-header Monday (23rd) against Seigal. This is a home game at the high school. Players need to wear home uniforms, white pants, red vests with black t-shirt or black underarmor and red hat. Players need to be at field at 5pm, it is a 6pm start time. Good luck !!!
6th grade
Lets keep our heads up 6th graders, remember everybody you guys have played so far have been 7th graders (most teams JV squad). We need to keep working hard, this is a good team and these tough games will pay-off in the long run. Look how far you guys have come from Little League. Tullahoma's Coach Sheffield told me that you guys are a good team and will be awesome next year! I think other schools may take another look at starting to pick up 6th graders. Monday's game vs. Seigal should be a true 6th grade double-header. I know you guys are looking foward to playing some teams who are in the same grade. Lets keep working hard and making ourselves better each game, i'm proud to be coaching you guys.

Grundy Co.
Tough night in Grundy Co.! We struggled offensively and could not get it in gear during the game. We are committed to getting better and will work hard to get to where we, as a team need to be. Lets keep our heads up and let Friday night be in the past. We have several games ahead of us to improve, commit to it, and we will be fine.
JV and 6th grade, lets show T-town what we are made of Saturday! Away uniforms (grey, w/black acces., red hat) and 6th (grey pants, black vests). Lets get it going Saturday!

CCMS vs. S. Franklin / VICTORY!
I am proud of the team for winning this hard fought game. We made some errors that kept it close, but the team didn't give up and we pulled out a victory. I am also proud of our pitchers who have stepped up with the absence of Tyler and Cody. Lance, Justen, Peyton and Matthew B. have stepped in and taken an important role. These guys being able to compete on the mound will help us as the season goes on.
I apologize to the JV parents and players. We had a Varsity/JV double-header on schedule, and the umpires even were paid for 2 games. S. Franklin coaches advised us that they thought they were only playing 1 game (varsity) and were not prepared to play 2. We encouraged them to stay and play, and after 1 inning they had parents pushing to leave and not finish the second game. This was out of our control, we cannot make a team stay and play.
Lets go play Grundy hard and bring home a win for varsity and JV!

Grundy address for 3/20/09
The physical address for the Grundy away game is : Recreation Park Rd., Gruetli Laager, TN 37339 . The boys will be riding a bus and leaving the school around 3:15pm. Remember to sign your child out if they do not ride the bus back to the school.
Communication
I was informed by a JV parent that there was a communication problem with the team and parents. I use this blog and Tiffany Meeker sends numerous texts per week, we also send information home with the boys concerning games and practices. However; due to many games being scheduled and weather, there are some last minute issues that do come up. The coaching staff currently coaches 35 players, and has a schedule with over 60 total games. We have a booster club that works very hard. If you (parent) have any question, feel free to call on any of the five coaches or contact a booster club member.

1st win of the season!
Good thing I work 3rd shift, I wouldn't sleep at all tonight. What a great win today! This was a true "team" win, considering we were missing two of our strong varsity players, and had to bring up four JV players. I am very proud of the guys, they showed some fortitude after losing to Harris last week. We only gave up two hits in the game. One impressive stat, EVERY first pitch we threw to their batters was a strike! That's awesome!
The JV guys did well also, and we had Fulks there as a "closer", but Cooper would not need any help as he closed the game for us. Kaine, Garrett D. and Garrett S., you guys did a great job stepping up and filling the holes for us. Zach Wildes also deserves a pat on the back, he has kept our bullpen going during these games and has had the pitchers ready when we called on them. This JV squad is going to get better as the year goes on, and will be a force next year.
Great job, and now lets keep the wins coming, don't let your guard down and let this make you hungrier for more!

3/16/09 (bad news / Harris away game, 17th)
We had a great practice tonight (16th), been a while since the boys have been on a field. Got some bad news, Cody and Zach's Grandfather passed away, and Tyler has hurt his ankle. The three of them will not be at some upcoming games. We want to keep Cody and Zach's family in our prayers, they have meant alot to CCMS baseball! We need to give Tyler a good swift kick in the butt for getting hurt (haha)! We hope he gets good news at the doctor, hoping its just a bad sprain. Some of our boys will have to "step up" and fill those big shoes. I know we have the talent to do it and here is a BIG chance for some JV players to see some Varsity playing time.
Players going to the away Harris game need to wear their away uniforms (grey with black accessories, red hat) and good luck to the JV guys going.

What terrible weather for baseball! Todays game is cancelled. We will have practice in the hitting facility from 2pm - 5pm for varsity and junior varsity. Looks like we will be having alot of make-up games, not alot we can do about mother nature. Hang in there and be patient, we will get these games in the schedule.

Tullahoma game
What a suprise for T-town! Our 6th grade team sure did suprise some Tullahoma fans with a very close game Wed. night. I was proud of our team, they played very well and anybody who doubted putting the 6th graders on the "big" field, suprise, suprise, suprise! They handled it well and had Tullahoma on the ropes, losing by 1 run in extra innings.
This will pay off for these guys, getting them out of Little League and into this level of baseball will make a big difference in years to come. They stepped up under a ton of pressure and did well. Good job to them and I look foward to more great games and being able to watch them grow into a great ball team.

CCMS vs. Harris - 3/10/09
What a way to open the season, and a tough way to lose! We gave up 15 walks and still almost won the game. The umpire had an extremely tight strike zone, which was tough on our pitchers. But they battled through it and kept it close. I was proud of the fight our boys had, they didn't "lay down" and give up. Harris Middle did not lose a game during "playday" weekend, they are definitely a tough opponent. We had a few mistakes early, but as a whole played pretty good defense. We hit the ball fairly well but left 8 runners on base.
All in all, we seen what we need to work on and will work hard to improve. There are many games left and I have a feeling the next meeting with Harris our boys will be ready!
The late nights have started, encourage the boys to get enough rest on their off-days.

First Regular Season Game
The first game of the season is finally here and I am pumped ooooooohhhhhhhh yyyyyyeeeeeaaaa, I know you Varsity players are as well. I say we go out and show them what true RAIDER BASEBALL is all about, if you young men go out and play together as a team and use your skills to the best of your ability we will come away with our first win of the season and a conference win at that. WWWWHHHHHOOOORRRRAAAAAHHHHH!

Playday weekend
On behalf of the entire coaching staff, I would like to thank everyone involved in making "playday weekend" possible. It takes alot of dedication to make this work, and without the help of the booster club and parent volunteers it would not take place. There were alot of compliments from visiting teams coaches and parents on how well organized and fun it was for their children. A special thanks to Mark Holder (a.k.a. "the big ding-a-ling"), who makes a big difference in the press box. Kids and parents will remember his announcing for years to come.
There are too many people to thank, so thanks to everyone who helped! It was a great success and the weather was the best for any playday to date. The kids will reap the benefit of your hard work. Thanks and what a great way to kick off the season.
See ya on the ballfield, Coach Floied.

looking foward to "playday"
Good scrimmage tonight, I think it helped both squads tremendously! Maybe the start of a new tradition with middle school ball, the "Red and Black" game. Proud to see the parents support the guys. Thanks to everybody who has helped thus far.
Looking foward to "playday" weekend. It always provides some great ball games and the opportunity to make some good profits for our team. Thanks in advance for all of the volunteers, it would not happen without you.
